Preston’s Recap: Benefits of Automation in the Workplace

Replacing repetitive tasks with automation serves two purposes: improved ergonomics and freeing up material handlers for tasks that require human intervention. One of the reasons I enjoy working in this industry is being able to listen to our clients and their needs and our team implementing the solution successfully.

Russell offers automation solutions such as conveyor systems that drastically limit or sometimes even fully get rid of manual labor that can expose material handling personnel to various health risks. One of our more recent customers in the southeast had seen increased demands with online orders during the COVID pandemic and had a completely manual process. What they had come to realize was that they were putting an immense amount of pressure on their warehouse workers to keep up, and in the long-term was not going to be sustainable.

The solution that our team offered was implementing picking robots and conveyor systems to reduce the redundant walking back and forth. This customer in particular had never purchased automation before, so we developed a highly scalable system that will grow along with them and their ever-changing needs.
